POSITION TITLE: Aide - Instructional
EXEMPTION STATUS: Non Exempt
REPORTS TO: Principal
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 months
HOURLY SALARY RANGE: Minimum $11.25, Midpoint $14.07, Maximum $16.88
Primary Purpose:
Provide instructional support services. Assist the teacher in instruction, preparation, and management of classroom activities. Work under the direct supervision of the teacher(s).
Qualifications:
Education/Certification
Associate Degree, two years of study (48 college hours) at an institute of higher learning, or meet formal academic assessment
Valid Texas educational aide certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills
Ability to assist with classroom instruction
Ability to work well with children
Effective communication (verbal and written), organizational, and interpersonal skills
Ability to speak and write Spanish, preferred
Experience:
Experience working with children
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies
- Provide direct instruction to students as assigned by the teacher and work with individual students and small groups.
- Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays, administering and scoring assignments and assessments, preparing records and reports, and maintaining a neat and orderly learning environment.
- Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers, as needed.
- Assist in conducting parent involvement activities.
Student Management
- Assist with classroom management.
- Supervise students throughout the day, before and after school, inside and outside the classroom, in the cafeteria, in the hallway, at drop-off/pick-up locations, on the bus, on the playground, on field trips, and at other times and locations as assigned.
- Keep the teacher informed of special needs and issues of individual students.
Professional Growth and Development
- Maintain familiarity with district curriculum and initiatives to better serve the needs of students.
- Participate in professional learning activities to improve job-related skills and demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and special events as assigned.
Communication
- Establish and maintain appropriate communication and a professional relationship with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the district and demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible as set out in the Texas Educator Code of Ethics.
- Articulate the district’s mission and goals to the community and solicit community support.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of student and district information.

- Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance, 30-55 pounds with assistance, and more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance
