POSITION TITLE: Sprinkler Technician

 

EXEMPTION STATUS:  Non-exempt

 

REPORTS TO: Grounds Supervisor

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 months

 

Primary Purpose

 

Maintain sprinkler systems and repair and install sprinkler equipment for district property.

 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Certification

High school diploma or GED, preferred

Valid Texas driver’s license

 

Special Knowledge/Skills

Ability to read and understand written instructions

Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to operate tractor and landscaping equipment

Ability to operate power tools and the use of hand tools

 

Experience

One year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; with a clear driving record

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

Grounds Maintenance

  • Assemble, install, maintain and pressure test all pipes and fittings.
  • Join pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent and caulks joints.
  • Bend pipe to required angle by use of pipe-bending machine or by placing pipe over block and bending by hand.
  • Fill pipe system with water or air and read pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking.
  • Install irrigation of metal and PVC pipe for sprinkler systems.
  • Inspect area irrigated to ensure adequate soaking and prevent waste of water.
  • Analyze and resolve work problems or assist workers in solving work problems.

Safety

  • Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.
  • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and immediately report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor.

  • Participate in professional learning, training programs, staff meetings, and special events as assigned.

Communication

  • Articulate the district’s mission and goals to the community and solicit community support.

Tools/Equipment Used: Backhoe, trencher, grader blade, tractor, riding and power mower, gas-powered weed trimmer, blower, edger, sprayer, striping machine, garden and hand tools, posthole auger, aerator, light truck, and van
Posture: Continual standing, walking; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting, climbing, reaching
Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, wrist flexion/extension
Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance, 30-55 pounds with assistance, and more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance 
Environment: Work indoors and outdoors, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces and ladders, around moving objects and vehicles; exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dampness, humidity, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noxious odors, loud noises; frequent district travel; occasional irregular and prolonged hours
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress, work with frequent interruptions
