POSITION TITLE: Electrician Journeyman

 

EXEMPTION STATUS: Non-Exempt

 

REPORTS TO: Electrician Foreman

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 months

 

HOURLY SALARY RANGE:  Minimum $21.57, Midpoint $25.99, Maximum $31.08

  

Primary Purpose:

 

Under general supervision maintain, repair, and install electrical systems, services, and equipment. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all electrical fixtures and systems in district facilities.

 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Certification

High school diploma or GED

Valid Journey Electrician License

Valid Texas driver’s license

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of electrical circuits, wiring and operating principles of motors

Knowledge of local electrical codes

Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and written reference material

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

Ability to perform mathematical calculations

Ability to diagnose and resolve problems

Ability to use hand and power tools

 

Experience:

Five years’ experience in electrical field; clear driving record

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

Maintenance and Repair

  • Install and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, power equipment, and components of machinery and equipment following electrical code, manuals, specifications, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Install and repair control and distribution apparatus, including motors, relays, switches, thermostats, circuit-breaker panels, etc.
  • Install and connect power supply wiring cables, conduit, and electrical apparatus for machines and equipment in new and existing facilities following diagrams, schematics, or blueprints.
  • Diagnose and resolve problems in electrical circuits, systems, and equipment using testing instruments and equipment.
  • Test continuity of circuits to ensure compatibility and safety of components using testing instruments.
  • Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit using rulers, measuring devices, hand tools, pipe threader, and conduit bender.
  • Repair or recommend replacement of electrical appliances, including commercial ovens, ranges, steam tables, washers, dryers, etc.
  • Receive and complete work orders.
  • Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates.
  • Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
  • Detect needed repairs on building, grounds, and equipment following established inspection procedures.
  • Assist in repair of security and fire alarm systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
  • Work irregular hours and respond to emergency calls as needed.

Records and Inventory

  • Maintain accurate records on materials and labor used.
  • Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials.

Safety

  • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and immediately report conditions that are not correctable to supervisor.

Professional Growth

  • Participate in professional learning programs, staff meetings, and special events as assigned.

Communication

  • Work with principals, administrators, and supervisors to complete projects.
  • Articulate the district’s mission and goals to the community and present a positive image of the district.

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Hand tools, electrical measuring and testing equipment, power tools, ladders, scaffolding, district vehicle
  • Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions and tight and enclosed spaces
  • Motion: Frequent walking; frequent climbing stairs, ladders and scaffolding; repetitive hand motions, wrist flexion/extension, grasping/squeezing, overhead reaching; frequent driving
  • Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance, 30-55 pounds with assistance, and more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance
  • Environment: Work outside and inside, near electrical power lines, on slippery or uneven surfaces, on ladders and scaffolding, around machinery with moving parts; exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, fumes, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; frequent districtwide travel; occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours
