POSITION TITLE:  Pest Applicator

 

EXEMPTION STATUS:  Non-exempt

 

REPORTS TO:  Grounds Supervisor

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  12 month

 

HOURLY SALARY RANGE:  Minimum $19.41, Midpoint $23.39, Maximum $27.37

 

 

Primary Purpose

 

Manage the pesticide management program.  Oversee and apply pesticides according to the district pesticide management plan.

 

Qualifications

 

Education/Certification

High school diploma or GED, preferred

Valid Texas driver’s license

Texas Structural Pest Control Board Certified Applicator License

 

Special Knowledge/Skills

Knowledge of methods and materials for pest control and Texas Structural Pest Control Board regulations

Ability to implement policy and procedures

Effective written and verbal communication skills

Ability to operate vehicle

Ability to operate pesticide application equipment

 

Experience

Three years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience with clear driving record

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties

 

Pest Control

• Implement the pesticide application program for use of pesticides and other chemicals.
• Prior to fumigating, clean areas that harbor pests; fumigate rooms and buildings with toxic gases; and spray chemical solutions or dust powders in rooms and work areas.
• Place poisonous paste or bait and mechanical traps where pests are present.
• Trap live animals, notify appropriate authorities for removal, and dispose of dead animals with proper notification and assistance from appropriate authorities.
• Label and secure all pesticides and equipment.
• Maintain inventory of chemicals, supplies and equipment and request additional supplies as needed.

Building and Grounds Maintenance

• Assist in other duties such as setting facilities for special events and moving tables, chairs and equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance to ensure the health and safety of students and staff.
• Work irregular hours and respond to emergencies after hours as needed.

Safety

• Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.
• Maintain proper and safe storage and application of chemicals including use of proper personal protective equipment and clothing.
• Inspect equipment for safety and efficiency and operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
• Correct unsafe conditions and immediately report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor.

Professional Growth and Development

• Participate in professional learning, training programs, and continuing education in pesticide management.
• Participate in staff meetings and special events as assigned.

Communication

• Communicate with administrators and staff about pesticide management and provide appropriate notice, as needed.
• Articulate the district’s mission and goals to the community and solicit community support.

• Tools/Equipment Used: Power and hand sprayer, application equipment, hand and power tools, light truck or van, chemical mixers, personal protective equipment
• Posture: Continual standing, walking; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting, climbing, reaching, crawling in tight spaces
• Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, wrist flexion/extension
• Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance, 30-55 pounds with assistance, and more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance 
• Environment: Work indoors and outdoors, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces and ladders, around moving objects and vehicles; exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dampness, humidity, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noxious odors, loud noises; frequent district travel; occasional irregular and prolonged hours
